This write up is about the Temple of Sree Ethirajavalli naayikaa Sametha Aadhikesava Perumal at Kaazhiyoor Village, Cheyyar taluk, Thiruvannamalai District. Some people are of the view that name derived from kaali is not correct. This Kaazhi is akin to Sirkazhi
Location:
The Kaazhiyoor Village (now called as Kaliyur) is located about 5 k.ms from Cheyyar Town (Previously known as Thiruvathipuram). To reach the village we have to come through Puliyarambakkam, between Big lake and Bootheri and the other route is through the bund of village’s Bik Lake. River Cheyyar is about 1 k m from the village and after crossing the river, at about 2 K,.Ms, there is a small mountain known as Aththi malai (or Aalapiranthaan Malai). So, this village is not connecting any two places. Main profession of the village is agriculture.
Village Set up:
The set up of the Kaazhiyoor Village is unique and an example of how a village should be formed. It is like a Garland around Sree Ethirajavalli Naayikaa Sametha Aadhikesava Perumal (hereinafter be referred as Koil). The Perumal and Thaayar are having the identical names of Sriperumbudur (where as a special respect to Udayavar, thayar is called Ethiraja Natha Valli Thayar).
The Koil is located on the Western side of the Village facing the East, as the case in most of the Vishnu Temples. Perumal, in standing Bose (in tamil “Ninraan”) and Thayar are facing the East.
There is Sannadhi Street (called as Agraharam) with houses on both the sides facing North and South and few houses on the North and South sides of the koil. About 100 years back entire Agraharam was inhabited by Sree Vaishnavaas and there were about 50 houses...
